Scholarship Alert! The W.A. Wolfe, Jr. and Phyllis P. Wolfe Foundation, Inc. Scholarship

The W.A. Wolfe, Jr. and Phyllis P. Wolfe Foundation scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior looking to extend their future educational endeavors. To be eligible you must be a high school senior, be pursuing further education, and reside in the counties of Mercer, McDowell, Monroe, and Wyoming in West Virginia, and Giles, Bland, Tazewell, and Buchanan in Virginia. Please see Ms. Baker for an application. Entries must be received by April 27, 2012.

Scholarship Alert! Shelor Motor Mile Scholarship

Shelor Motor Mile offers $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who wish to further their education after high school. To be eligible you must be a 2012 graduate of Auburn High School, Blacksburg High School, Christiansburg High School, Eastern Montgomery High School, Giles High School, or Narrows High School and be pursuing further education. Please see Ms. Baker for an application. Completed applications must be received by March 19, 2012.

Scholarship Alert! The National Hispanic Caucus of School Board Members Scholarship Program

The National Hispanic Caucus of School Board Members will offer ten scholarship awards for high school seniors. To be eligible for this scholarship you must be of hispanic origin, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be able to provide proof of acceptance to an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning with the intention to complete a two or four year degree. Please see Ms. Baker for more information and to get an application packet. All materials must be received by Friday, February 10, 2012.

Scholarship Alert! Virginia Mayflower Society Mildred Ramos Scholarship $1,620!

The mission of the Mildred Ramos Scholarship Fund is to encourage and support the study of the Mayflower Pilgrim experience and values. The Scholarship is named for the former Governor General of the General Society and past Governor of the Virginia Society. Applicants for this scholarship must be a high school senior with a grade point average of at least a B or equivalent. Applicants must be sponsored by a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendents in the Commonwealth of Virginia – if prospective applicants do not know a Society member, they should contact Mark Cox at m.markcox@comcast.net who may be able to help them find a member who will serve as a sponsor. Giles Youth Adult Partnership Literary Contest

The Giles Youth Adult Partnership (GYAP) is sponsoring a literary contest for NHS students in grades 8 through 12. The theme for the contest is “Explain How Respect Is a Solid Foundation for Any Relationship”. Entries must be submitted to Ms. Baker by Wednesday, February 29th. Scholarship Alert! The Gloria Wille Bell and Carlos R. Bell Charitible Trust

This scholarship program will provide $80,000 over four years of undergraduate study  in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or another related field at the University of Michigan.  To be eligible you must, be a high school senior, be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. For more information regarding eligibility and the application process, visit http://www.bellscholarship.org/. Essays and applications need to be completed no later than February 1, 2012.

Scholarship Alert! VSGA Scholarship Program of The Virginia Golf Foundation

The VSGA Scholarship Program of the Virginia Golf Foundation was founded to help young Virginians with an interest in golf attend colleges and universities within the Commonwealth. To be eligible you must be a high school senior in good standing, be a Virginia resident since Sept. 1 2011, play or have an interest in an activity associated with golf, must submit an essay to the Virginia Golf Foundation, have financial need, be planning to attend college in Virginia, and have a member of the VSGA apply on your behalf. Applications must be submitted by 5:00pm on Friday, February 24, 2011. Please see Mrs. Baker for an application.

2011 KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program

The KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program was created in 2006 and is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public institution within their state of residence. One award available for up to $5,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, and room and board. To be eligible you must be a high school senior, maintain a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, enroll in a public, in-state college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree, and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Students complete their application online at www.kfcscholars.org. Deadline for application completion is February  8, 2012.

BBB Student of Integrity Scholarship Award

The Better Business Bureau is pleased to offer the Student of Integrity Scholarship Award to honor high school seniors. Each award winner will be presented with a scholarship for up to $1,000. To be eligible you must be a high school senior, be able to demonstrate leadership, contributions to your community and schools, and personal integrity, write an essay, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be available to attend the awards dinner in Spring 2011. Completed applications need to be postmarked no later than January 20, 2012. Please see Mrs. Baker for an application.
